A code of conduct was issued for the media


The Election Commission has issued a code of conduct for the media for the Punjab Assembly elections to be held on May 14.

The Election Commission says that the content broadcasted on the media during the election campaign should be in accordance with the ideology of Pakistan, no content against the country’s integrity, independence and the independence of the judiciary will be published or released.

Newspapers, digital and social media will also be bound to not publish statements that harm national unity and disturb public peace during the election campaign.

Personal attacks including religion, race, gender, caste community should be avoided, legal action will be taken on any such complaint, if any candidate makes accusations against another candidate, the media should carry the stand of both.

According to the code of conduct, the media will provide details of the advertisement expenses of the candidate or political party to the Election Commission, media representatives will not obstruct the election process.

International observers and media persons will not carry election symbols or any symbols of any political party, the media will not broadcast the official results until one hour after the end of polling.

The Election Commission says that the government and the law enforcement agencies should ensure the freedom of expression of the media, the media should not be a part of the political campaign supported by government expenses, the media should ensure the law and order situation on the polling day during the election campaign. Should avoid harmful content.

Journalists holding accreditation cards will be allowed to enter polling stations, media persons will ensure the confidentiality of ballots, media representatives will be allowed to observe the counting process.
