Bridgeport: A bacteria has been found in an eye medication in the US that is infecting the eyes of healthy people.
A bacterium called Pseudomonas aeruginosa has been found in eye drops sold in the United States. This bacteria is commonly found in soil and water and often causes blood and lung infections.
Three people have lost their lives and four people have had to have their eyeballs removed due to this rare super bug. Eight people have lost their sight in one or both eyes after using contaminated eye drops.
In view of the dangerous situation, the monitoring institutions of the health department in the United States had recalled the drug from the pharmacies in the past few days in order to limit the problem.
This bacteria was identified in a long-term care center in the US state of Connecticut. According to the New York Times, patients in the center who had no symptoms were also infected with this bacteria. Bacteria had made a place in the bodies of these patients.
U.S. health officials are concerned that the new bacterium could gain a foothold in the country.
