Cold or low temperatures can slow aging

Cologne Germany: A study found that cold temperatures slow down aging and inhibit harmful proteins.

In other words, exposure to cold temperatures reduces the production of harmful proteins at the cellular level, and other harmful chemicals associated with aging are either broken down or produced less.

According to a center for scientific research on aging at the University of Cologne in Germany, if we cool down the ambient temperature in a moderate way, the activity of the proteasome in the body increases. This reduces the production of harmful proteins that over time lead to aging of the brain, nerves, and the entire body.

In this way, the risk of neurological diseases like ALS can also be avoided and it has been found that the cold environment sweeps harmful proteins to the surface of every cell. The research is published in the journal Nature Aging.

Dr. David Wilches of the University of Cologne and his colleagues have evaluated its effects on Caenorhabditis elegans, a type of nematode. Past research on C. elegans has also been applied to humans. Interestingly, this nematode contains genes for ALS disease and Huntington’s disease.

It was noted that senescence slowed down in C. elegans in cold and less harmful proteins were produced.

When the experts considered this insect, the production of harmful proteins decreased in the cold environment and the speed of aging also slowed down. Experts also found that spending more time in an environment with an average body temperature of 37 degrees Celsius is also beneficial.

However, only time will tell the human application of this research, which requires further research by experts.
