The transfer of large industries from Peshawar to Islamabad is cancelled

The court quashed the order issued by the Federal Board of Revenue on August 5, 2020.

The Peshawar High Court invalidated the process of transferring the affairs of large tax-paying units from Peshawar to Islamabad.

In the High Court, a hearing was held on petitions against transfer of tax matters of large tax-paying industries from Peshawar Tax Office to Islamabad.

A two-member bench comprising Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim and Justice SM Atiq Shah conducted the hearing.

In an order issued by the Federal Board of Revenue on August 5, 2020, the court invalidated the move to transfer the tax affairs of major units of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from Peshawar Tax Office to Islamabad.

The petitioner’s lawyer argued that in August 2020, the Federal Board of Revenue transferred the affairs of more than 360 major tax units of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from Peshawar office to Islamabad, due to which the big industrialists here are facing severe difficulties. There will also be a difference on the C award, because from where the tax is collected more, it gets more share in the NFC award. Balochistan High Court has issued a detailed decision in this regard. After the death of Ahmad Seth, this decision remained incomplete.

After hearing the arguments of the parties, the court approved the petitions and annulled the decision of the federal government.
