The two-day meeting of NATO foreign ministers ended, discussing the Russian war against Ukraine

A two-day meeting of NATO foreign ministers concluded today in Brussels, where Russian aggression against Ukraine was discussed.

Speaking at a press conference after the meeting held at the NATO headquarters in Brussels, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that we discussed the situation created by Russia’s war against Ukraine on the world.

If President Putin wins in Ukraine, it will send a dangerous message to authoritarian leaders around the world that they can achieve their goals through brute force, he stressed.

The foreign ministers also discussed China’s growing alignment with Russia.

The Secretary General said that the Allies have made it clear that China’s provision of lethal aid to Russia would be a historic mistake with profound implications.

As Beijing and Moscow push back against the rules-based international system, it is even more important for NATO allies and like-minded partners to stand together, he stressed.

The NATO chief added that earlier the alliance’s foreign ministers discussed threats and challenges in the Middle East and North Africa, including instability, terrorism and the growing activities of Russia and China. He also discussed the importance of increasing defense spending.

In the last session of the meeting, NATO foreign ministers also discussed with Indo-Pacific partners Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Democratic Republic of Korea. While yesterday, Finland took its seat as the 31st member country of NATO.
