Oxford: Repairing damaged veins and fine nerves is a very difficult process. Now this task can be made easier by mixing a spider web in nature with natural silk threads.

Experts have taken the help of golden orb spider and common silkworms in this regard. Although we can repair short distances with conventional methods, the combination of two types of natural fibers can repair long distances of nerves and tissues. In this way, regeneration starts in the nerve.

We know that the peripheral nerves located in the skull control the entire body by activating and providing sensation to the rest of the external organs. If it is affected, brain-muscle communication is broken and the brain’s commands do not reach the hands or feet.

Among the traditional methods being used to repair these nerves is the autograft process, where surgeons replace the affected nerves with other parts of the body. This graft is taken from a sensory nerve (nerve). But many times it works and many times it fails, secondly nerve grafting also increases abnormal sensitivity.

Nerves and sinuses have tube-like structures called nerve guides on both ends. But the problem is if the distance between them is work then the probability of success increases i.e. 3 cm gap can be crossed with difficulty.

Now the University of Oxford and the Medical University of Vienna have jointly created tube-like structures from spider webs and natural silk. With their help, the long gap in the nerves can be bridged and communication between them is established. The organ, tissue or nerve then attaches itself and the silk thread dissolves.

This is because both types of wire found in nature are naturally flexible and strong. They have the extraordinary ability to enter the body and become part of it.

They have been successfully tested in animal models for grafting up to 10 mm of affected area.
