Pakistani expert Dr. Adil Najam elected president of WWF International

Islamabad: Pakistan’s eminent educationist, climate and environmental diplomacy expert, teacher, former president of Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) Dr. Adil Najam has become the head of ‘World Wildlife Fund for Nature’ (WWF) International. Which is also an extraordinary honor for Pakistan.

Dr. Adil Najam succeeds the outgoing Interim President, Neville Asdale, Dr. Adil is a noted public scholar after previously serving as the Vice-Chancellor of Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS); Perform outstanding services.

His teaching, research and public engagement have focused on global public policy issues, sustainable and human development, and climate change in the Global South, particularly conservation and environmental issues. He is also the founding editor of the award-winning blog Pakistaniat.com.

Adil Najam is Dean Emeritus of the Frederick S. Purdy School of Global Studies at Boston University and continues as Professor of International Relations, Planet Earth, and Environment. Dr. Najam has also taught at MIT and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University

Commenting on the official appointment of Dr. Adil, WWF Pakistan Director General Hamad Naqi Khan said that Adil Najam is the best person to take on the role of WWF International Board President.

It is a matter of great pride for Pakistan that Dr. Adil is now heading the world’s largest environmental protection organization. He has been a true friend of WWF for years and I am sure he will continue to do so at this difficult time. I will provide the right leadership required.

Dr. Adil was the lead author of the third and fourth assessments of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and has authored more than 100 academic papers and book chapters.

Dr. Adil Najam is a former Trustee of the International Board of WWF International (2011-2019). He has often served as a consultant to international organizations and NGOs and governments around the world. In 2010, he was awarded Sitara Imtiaz (Highest), one of Pakistan’s highest civilian awards by the President of Pakistan. A
