Indian filmmaker Shekhar Kapur has revealed his exciting plans to make an Indian version of the Harry Potter franchise.

Talking about his project ‘Paani’ in a recent interview, Shekhar Kapur said that I wanted to make ‘Paani’ as an Indian production because one thing I always felt was ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ though. It grossed $400 million worldwide, but was not considered an Indian film.

“I really wanted Paani to be an Indian film, I came back to India to make it, although at one point I was thinking of making the film in Spanish,” he said.

“I thought about making it in Mexico City because we have the same problems there, the same conflict and the same culture, but I wasted about 5 to 6 years of my life at that time,” he added.

Shikhar Kapur said that I am actually planning a project which will be an Indian version of Harry Potter because I think our people in India are more used to seeing things from other world and we all see the same kind of stories here and Have grown up listening.

He said that maybe I will make a film franchise like ‘Harry Potter’ which will not be from the West but from India.

It should be noted that till now the last film directed by Shikhar Kapur was ‘What’s I Got To Do With It’.

The cast of the film included Shabana Azmi, Emma Thompson, Lily James, Shahzad Latif, Sajal Ali, Oliver Chris, Asim Chaudhry, Jeff Mirza, Ellis and Ewing, and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan.
