Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s political party ‘Brothers of Italy’ has submitted a new law for approval, under which there will be a penalty for using English language in official correspondence.

According to the report of the American Broadcasting Corporation, according to the law, if Italian citizens use any foreign language, including English, in official correspondence, they will have to pay a fine of up to 100,000 euros.

This law was presented by Fabio Rampeli in Italy’s lower house ‘Chamber of Deputies’, which has the support of the Prime Minister.

The draft of the proposed law mentions the use of any foreign language but specifically emphasizes ‘anglicism’ or the use of English words.

The draft said that English undermines the status of our Italian language.

It was also said that now that England is not part of the European Union, it is very wrong for us to use English in our offices.

The bill, which is yet to be debated in Parliament, will require the ability to write, read and speak Italian for public administrative positions after the ban on the English language.

Under the proposed law, there will also be a ban on writing the names of posts in English in office documents.

Foreign companies must have all their office rules and employment contracts translated into Italian.
