Death toll from tornadoes in US rises to 32

Washington: The death toll from a series of deadly storms and tornadoes in the South and Midwest United States has risen to 32.

According to CNN, more than 50 tornadoes were reported in at least seven US states, where tornadoes and winds destroyed homes and buildings and blew away trees and cars.

At least four people were killed in Wayne County, Arkansas, as destruction continued from the county’s western border to its eastern border. “We need all the help we can get to help devastated families recover,” Mayor Jennifer Hobbs told CNN.

Several deaths were confirmed as a result of the storms in the states of Arkansas, Indiana and Tennessee, where the death toll has risen to 15. Among the dead in Memphis, Tennessee, were two children and an adult who died after roofs collapsed on their homes.

On the other hand, nine people died as a result of storms in McNairy County, Tennessee. Mayor Larry Smith confirmed to CNN that the tornado swept our county from one end to the other. The mayor said that the security authorities are continuing to search for people buried in the collapsed buildings.

Similarly, five deaths were reported in Indiana and four in Illinois, including one in which a roof collapsed when 200 people attended a concert. State and local officials also reported fatalities in Alabama, Mississippi and Delaware.
