Egypt's foreign debt increases, reaching $163 billion by 2022


Egypt’s Ministry of Planning and Economic Development has said in a statement on foreign debt that foreign debt has increased by 5.2 percent as of December 2022.

Egyptian officials from Cairo say that foreign loans reached 162 billion 90 million US dollars by December 2022. In September 2022, foreign loans to Egypt were recorded at 154 billion 90 million dollars.

According to Egyptian authorities, in 2021, Egypt’s foreign debt increased by 12 percent.

The Egyptian Ministry of Planning says that Egypt’s foreign debt has been recorded at 145 billion 500 million dollars. By January 2023, Egypt’s foreign reserves were down to $34.22 billion.
