The European Parliament approved revised rules on product safety of non-food consumer products by a majority of 569 votes.
The latest law will ensure that products in Europe, whether sold online or in local shops, meet the highest safety standards.
The background to the approval of these new rules is that during 2021, 73 percent of European consumers bought products online. Of which 62 percent of the products came from outside Europe.
According to Charanzova MEP, the catalyst behind these rules, more than 50 percent of the dangerous goods came from China.
He said that through this law, we have taken an important step by protecting all our vulnerable consumers, children and the elderly, against those who do not sell safe products in Europe.
He said that every product sold must have someone, be it the manufacturer or the importer, who takes full responsibility for it within Europe. If this does not happen, all websites selling such products will be obliged to remove these items within 2 days.
According to the said member, the accidents caused by these dangerous goods in Europe are estimated at 11.5 billion and the cost of treatment and health care after these accidents is estimated at 6.7 billion euros. is annual.
Most of these hazardous products are items that use batteries, motors and electrical wires.
