The Lahore High Court has issued a decision regarding the province-wide implementation of the Law on Protection from Violence against Women.
Justice Ali Zia Bajwa of Lahore High Court has given a decision on the petition for the recovery of Shabnam Dil Muhammad’s daughter.
The court said in the judgment that it is a warning to the Punjab government that it is not too late to implement the Women’s Act.
In the decision, the Lahore High Court has said that the Women’s Act is an important legislation that will succeed in protecting women from violence.
The Supreme Court says that it is the responsibility of the Punjab government to take all measures to implement the Women’s Act.
Petitioner Shabnam Dil Muhammad had taken the stand that her daughter Sudra was tortured by her husband.
During the hearing, the court was told that the Women’s Act was not implemented in any part of the province except Multan.
The court said that the government should keep in mind the objective of the law, failure of which would defeat its primary purpose.
Justice Ali Zia Bajwa said that a law which is not implemented can only be called a paper law, paper laws are made to hide the problems and therefore they are deceptive.
