The ‘Justice for Sikhs’ rally, consisting of hundreds of members of the Sikh community living in Europe, reached the European capital Brussels today. Where it took the form of a large protest in front of the European Parliament.
The Sikh community from other European countries including Belgium participated in the demonstration and rally and criticized the Modi government.
Speakers at the protest said attacks and violence against religious minorities have increased in the country since Narendra Modi came to power.
Harassment of minorities by Hindu extremist groups and the government has increased alarmingly.
The speakers further said that the Modi government in India is depriving the Sikh youth of their basic human rights by detaining them in Punjab for no reason. This oppressive act is a violation of their fundamental rights.
The speakers said that in India those who speak for the rights of the Sikh community and those who take the name of Khalistan are imprisoned unconstitutionally and illegally and the prisoners are released even after the punishment given by the courts. It is not done which is against the Geneva Convention and international laws and totally unconstitutional and illegal.
On this occasion, the protestors were carrying placards against the Indian government, on which details about Indian atrocities were recorded. While large photographs of the leaders killed and arrested during the Sikh movement were also displayed on Plus Luxemburg Square.
The speakers involved in the protest said that the international community, especially the European Union, should take notice of the atrocities against the Sikhs in India. Put pressure on India regarding the extra-constitutional killings of Sikhs, enforced disappearances and the release of political prisoners.
The participants of the rally said that they will continue their struggle till the establishment of Khalistan.
It should be noted that this Sikh rally was supported by many panthic committees, Sikh organizations and Gurdwara management committees.
