Spotify removed several Indian songs over licensing dispute

Mumbai: Spotify has removed an entire list of Bollywood songs from Zee Music Company after talks to renew their licensing agreement fell through last week.

Bollywood fans have taken to social media to express their displeasure and some even threatened to cancel their subscriptions to the music streaming platform.

Spotify and Zee Music have been unable to reach a licensing agreement, the leading music service said in a statement, “we will continue to negotiate in good faith in the hope of finding a mutually agreeable solution soon.”

Songs like Maya Menu from Jersey (2022), Makhana from Drive (2019) and Zalama from Raees (2017) have been removed from Spotify, while romcom Veere Di Wedding (2018), award-winning Gully Boy (2019) and The soundtrack to the period drama Clunk (2019) has also been removed.
