Indian manager of Chinese mobile company arrested in multi-crore fraud

Maharashtra: The Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Commissioner has arrested the Indian manager of Chinese smartphone company Oppo at the district police station in Maharashtra for a fraud of Rs 19 crore on fake invoices.

According to Indian media, the CGST commissioner of Bhiwandi said that Mahendra Kumar Rawat, manager of finance and accounts division of Oppo Mobiles India Private Limited, has been arrested and produced in the local court and remanded in judicial custody till April 3. .

Based on the evidence gathered during the investigation, Mahendra was arrested under Section 69 of the CGST Act, 2017 for violating Section 132 of the Act. An investigation by the Anti-Theft Wing of CGST Bhiwandi Commissionerate revealed that Oppo, Maharashtra was involved in procuring fake ITC without any goods receipt.

Mahendra Kumar Rawat, Manager Finance & Accounts and Authorized Signatory of Oppo Mobiles India Pvt Ltd played a key role in availing the fake ITC amounting to INR 19,27,54,093.
