Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court has reserved its decision on PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s bail plea.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had filed an application in the Islamabad High Court against the decision of the Banking Court on February 28 regarding the granting of bail to PTI Chairman Imran Khan. It was argued in the petition that the decision of the Special Court is against the law. Imran Khan’s bail should be canceled by annulling the banking court’s decision.
Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri of Islamabad High Court heard the application. FIA Special Prosecutor Rizwan Abbasi took a stand that Imran Khan has not yet been involved in the investigation. The decision of the Banking Court to grant interim bail should be annulled.
Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani said that the allegations in the FIR are against Arif Naqvi. Imran Khan or Tehreek-e-Insaf are the recipients of the money.
Lawyer FIA said that Imran Khan said in an interview that these are charity funds but they were used for political purposes.
Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani inquired that if the money was used by a political party, how did it become personal? The FIA lawyer said it was a crime to send charity money through someone else’s foreign account.
Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani said that show the letter from the State Bank which you received during the investigation. You did not include the employee of the State Bank in the investigation. Changing the name of a bank account is not a crime. Has State Bank taken any action to change the name or nature of account?
The FIA lawyer replied that they would. The relevant record of UBL Bank is missing. A written response was sought from State Bank which they provided. State Bank was not included in the statement of 161.
The court said that the records are the responsibility of the bank, PTI did not take them. Did Imran Khan sign the nature of account change form?
Lawyer FIA said that Younis Ali, Tariq Shafi and Sardar Azhar Tariq signed. This is white collar crime. We have to investigate a lot of things.
Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani said that this account has not changed. The details are different in the form. This whole case comes under the regulation of State Bank. What is Imran Khan’s relationship with Tariq Shafi? What money has Imran Khan been withdrawing? Who is the signatory of this account? This account belongs to Tehreek-e-Insaf, so the Committee of Tehreek-e-Insaf has to run it. How did Imran Khan become Benfishri?
Raja Rizwan Abbasi replied that Imran Khan is the chairman of the party and he is the benefactor.
