If it is said that water is an important part of human life, then it will not be wrong, because it is only thanks to it that human lives are flowing in abundance. Without it, life becomes impossible, it is our luck that we are such. We live on a planet where life is going through all the water and the main reason for this is the presence of water here. 70% of our earth is water and 30% is land, yet we are not facing water problems every other day. Clean water is not available for drinking or consumption.
With the passage of time, this problem is becoming serious day by day. According to the report of Pakistan Council for Research on Water Resources (PCRWR), 80 percent of the population of Pakistan is forced to drink contaminated and harmful water. According to environmental experts, 69 to 82 percent of the water samples collected from the country’s districts were found to be contaminated and harmful to health. The most important cause of water pollution is bacteria, toxic metals, turbidity, Dissolved in water are harmful elements, nitrate and fluoride.
The number of harmful bacteria in some areas was found to be more than 69 percent, while the amount of harmful metals in some areas was 24 percent and the rate of turbidity was 14 percent. According to a survey, only 22 percent of drinking water in Pakistan is clean. In addition, 80 percent of the water in 24 cities is contaminated, in which the proportion of bacteria is 69 percent, while arsenic in the water of southern Punjab and Sindh. The amount of 15% of groundwater is 93% of nitrate and 8% of fluoride in Balochistan water.
Pakistan Council for Research on Water Resources (PCRW) is the authorized water monitoring agency, which collects all water samples and conducts water tests. According to environmentalists, water packed in bottles in the name of mineral water is not drinkable, because this water is filled with waste water. According to the World Health Organization, polluted water causes 80 percent of diseases, including hepatitis, intestinal, stomach, liver, kidney diseases, cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
First, the water falls on the mountains in the form of snow, then it reaches us through streams and rivers, during which it contains minerals, including calcium, magnesium, chloride, fluoride, arsenic, nitrate, iron and sulfate. These natural minerals are called minerals. If all these minerals are included in a certain amount, this water is suitable for drinking and if there are more, it will be harmful to health, to the extent that it can cause death. Apart from this, many particles are included in it while reaching the houses passing through mountains, rivers, lakes and dams, which are very dangerous for human life. Water contains two types of particles, one is those that are dissolved in the water.
For example, hundreds of types of particles, including bacteria, viruses, chlorine, nitrates and copper, can only be removed through a reverse osmosis plant. Besides, these particles can also be removed which are not soluble in water. Other particles are those that are added to the water but not dissolved, they can only be removed by a good filtration plant. They include many particles including soil, sand, waste, iron, rust, but even though all the methods are known, they are not practiced.
If we look around us, one or the other person in every house will surely be seen sick, and nowadays many diseases are prevalent. Also, it is a very common thing in our society that people judge drinking water based on whether it is sweet or salty. Whether water is drinkable is determined by the amount of salt in the particles or total dissolved solids. ) on TDS basis.
The TDS of mineral water available in the market is less than 300, this amount is set by the World Health Organization, the water which will have TDS amount of 300, contains calcium, magnesium, chloride, fluoride, arsenic, nitrate, iron and Sulfates must be included. According to environmental experts, this water is very useful for human health. If its level increases or decreases much more than 300, in both cases it is harmful for health. According to research, if there is more arsenic in the water, diseases like skin cancer, skin and high blood pressure are born. Dental and bone diseases are caused due to high fluoride content, in addition, diseases such as cholera, diarrhea and typhoid are also becoming common due to the presence of impurities in the water.
An estimated 40 percent of deaths are due to stomach diseases, the main cause of which is the consumption of contaminated water. There is no doubt that the situation of drinking water in urban areas is even worse than in rural areas. According to a survey conducted some time ago, the drinking water in 23 major cities of the country is contaminated with harmful bacteria, soil and waste. In addition, a large amount of arsenic was found. While in urban areas, only 15 percent of the population has access to clean drinking water.
Our tragedy is that a large number of residents living on the shores of the sea are also deprived of clean drinking water. By making the sea water sweet through desalination and reverse osmosis methods, we ensured the supply of clean drinking water for the millions of people of Karachi. But the rulers are not ready to consider these methods.
This problem is getting worse day by day in Pakistan. One of the main reasons for this is the decrease in the level of underground water. Due to the large number of agricultural tube wells installed in rural areas, groundwater reserves are decreasing. Apart from this, due to the gradual increase in global temperature and decrease in rainfall, the underground water level is decreasing.
