Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha has dissolved the parliament and announced general elections in May.
According to the royal gazette, the dissolution of parliament was announced while it was informed that elections would be held on May 7 or 14.
This will be the second general election since former army chief Prayuth seized power in 2014.
In the 2019 election, Prayuth strengthened his grip on power, but these elections are said to be controversial.
Under the constitution drafted by the military in 2017, the prime minister is elected by 250 senators and 500 members of the lower house.
It should be remembered that since the introduction of democracy in 1932, more than a dozen martial laws have been imposed in Thailand.
