Boston: Air pollution has become a dire global problem. We are affected by increasing pollution in Lahore and Karachi. That’s why Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) experts have created an open-source and low-cost device that can be installed in a car.

This device called Flatburn is so cheap that people all over the world can use it. All its components are manufactured by 3D printing which has reduced the cost. Conventional sensors are very expensive and cumbersome whereas Flatburn is a great invention.

Its inventors are Carlo Retti and his colleagues at MIT’s Sensible Lab. The team has started testing it in several major cities around the world. In the next phase, it will be made a part of the ‘CityScanner’ project to find out the intensity of air pollution in cities and other details.

Experts said that they were working on it for the last five years and now the first sample has come out.
