Unknown assailants shot dead 22 people, including 3 Buddhists, at close range in central Myanmar.

According to the foreign news agency “Reuters”, the spokesman of Myanmar’s military junta said that its soldiers have been involved in clashes with rebel fighters in Panlaung region of Southern Shan State, but they did not harm any civilians.

Junta spokesman Zo Min Tun said in a statement that the KNDF and another rebel group entered the village of Nan Nant while government forces were there to provide security along with local militias.

“Some villagers were killed and many injured when the terrorist groups opened fire,” he said, but did not respond to multiple calls from Reuters for further comment, while Reuters could not independently verify any of the claims.
