Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has indicated to challenge the appointment of the new chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in court.
PTI leader and former Punjab Governor Umar Sarfraz Cheema said in an interview that PTI had already written a letter to the Speaker National Assembly in early February, in which senior PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi as A request was made for the appointment of the Leader of the Opposition.
He said that instead of considering the request, the Speaker National Assembly handed over the portfolio of the opposition leader to PTI’s defector Raja Riaz despite not having the support of the majority in the opposition benches.
Umar Sarfraz Cheema said that keeping this in mind, the appointment of the new chairman of NAB was not justified, so the party has decided to challenge the appointment in the court.
The process of appointing Chairman NAB is controversial
On the other hand, PTI leader Chaudhry Fawad The process of appointment of Chairman NAB has been declared controversial.
He said on the social media website Twitter that the court has suspended the notification of the resignation of Tehreek-e-Insaf members and Tehreek-e-Insaf has nominated Shah Mahmood Qureshi as the leader of the opposition.
Fawad Chaudhry said that in this background, the process of consultation between the government and the opposition was not done legally in the appointment of the new NAB chairman.
It should be noted that between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Raja Riaz, the federal government has appointed Lieutenant General (retd) Nazir Ahmed Butt as the new chairman of NAB for three years.
The government has chosen the new NAB chairman after the Prime Minister’s meetings with Army Chief General Asim Munir, People’s Party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
