Peshawar: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Haji Ghulam Ali says that he has not seen the letter sent by the Election Commission regarding the date of the elections.
Talking to Express News, Ghulam Ali said that the Election Commission’s letter is not in my name but in the name of my principal secretary who is on leave.
Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said that the Principal Secretary will come to duty on Monday, then he will open the letter and read it, and if he reads the letter, he will also reply to it.
The governor said that there are orders of the Supreme Court, he will definitely give the date of the provincial assembly election, he has always respected the courts and will still follow the court decision.
It should be noted that the Supreme Court had ordered elections to be held in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa within 90 days in the case of self-notice elections and directed that the President should consult with the Election Commission of Punjab and the Governor of KP should consult with the Election Commission. Give the date of election.
The Supreme Court declared the President’s order of February 20 valid to the extent of Punjab, while void for the KP Assembly. The Supreme Court said in the decision that the Election Commission is obliged to play the role of advice to the Governor and the President. The President announced the date of elections on April 9. The Election Commission did not play its role in this situation. If elections are not possible on April 9, then the date can be changed in Punjab after consultation.
The court said that it is the responsibility of the federation to play its role in conducting the elections. It is the duty of the Federation that the Executive Authorities of the Federation assist the Election Commission. Governor KP should immediately give the date of elections and all federal and provincial institutions should provide all kinds of assistance including security to the Election Commission. On February 22, the Chief Justice took notice of the delay in the elections and constituted a 9-member bench.
