Two US Air Force commanders and four subordinate officers were fired this week.

According to the report of the American Broadcasting Corporation, an inspection of the security of the nuclear weapons stockpile in North Dakota was conducted, in which the units of the two commanders were declared as failures.

Minot Air Force Base is the only US air base from which nuclear ballistic missiles can be launched, while strategic bombers can also fly from here carrying nuclear bombs.

Regular pass or fail results are announced after inspections to ensure nuclear safety, but these results are kept confidential.

A defense official said the officers were fired for failing to inspect vehicles and equipment rather than nuclear weapons.

“We have disciplined inspection protocols in place and we expect 100 percent compliance,” said Col. Bruce Vidal, director of public affairs for the U.S. Air Force’s Global Strike Commander.

“Nothing less than 100 percent is acceptable, it’s important to us,” he said.

The commanders of the Air Force’s 5th Mission Support Group and 5th Logistics Readiness Squadron have been retired.

The Mission Support Group consists of 1,600 military and civilian personnel, and maintains all air bases, infrastructure and military forces.

The Logistics Readiness Squadron is responsible for planning deployments and providing logistics to troops.
