The Supreme Court’s automatic notice case for elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be heard again today.
The ruling alliance has filed an appeal to form a full court by separating Justice Mazahir Ali Naqvi and Justice Ijazul Ahsan from the nine-member bench.
In the last hearing on Friday, the Chief Justice had declared that he would hear the protestors on the issue of judges on Monday.
In the hearing held so far, Justice Athar Manullah has questioned the procedure for dissolution of the assemblies, while Justice Jamal Mandukhel has questioned the notice itself.
The Chief Justice had remarked in the first hearing that the elections are to be held in ninety days, he will not tolerate any violation of the constitution.
The court has issued notices to the Attorney General, four provincial advocates general, political parties including PDM, Pakistan Bar Council and the Supreme Court Bar for Monday.
It should be noted that the Supreme Court had taken notice of the delay in elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Justice Ejazul Ahsan and Justice Mazahir Ali Akbar Naqvi sent the matter to the Chief Justice for suo motu notice, after which a 9-member larger bench was constituted to hear the suo motu notice.
The bench headed by the Chief Justice includes Justice Ijaz Ul Ahsan, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Muneeb Akhtar, Justice Yahya Afridi, Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi, Justice Jamal Khan Mandukhel, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Athar Minullah.
