Former members of the National Assembly of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have approached the Peshawar High Court to suspend the March 16 by-elections.
In the Peshawar High Court, former Tehreek-e-Insaf MNAs have filed a writ against their resignations, in which the Speaker National Assembly, Secretary National Assembly, Election Commission and the Federal Government have been made parties.
In the writ, the position was adopted that the Speaker of the National Assembly accepted the resignation of 35 members without fulfilling the legal points, while the members of the National Assembly have to appear before the Speaker for approval of the resignations, which they did not do, so the court did not accept the resignation of the Speaker. Declare the acceptance of the confirmed resignations as illegal.
The petition pleads that the Speaker has illegally accepted the resignations and therefore the by-election process to be held on March 16 should be suspended.
