The Central Bank of Ukraine has issued a commemorative note on the one-year anniversary of the Russian aggression.
On one side of the note, three military personnel are waving the Ukrainian flag, while on the other side of the 20 hryvnia (Ukrainian currency) note, two hands are shown bound with tape.
These bound hands represent the war crimes committed by the Russian military in Ukraine.
“On the completion of the war year, we decided to issue a commemorative note that will reflect the feelings, attitudes and important things of the year on one piece of paper,” said Andriy Pushny, Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine.
The central bank has worked hard since the start of the war to keep the domestic currency pegged at 36.57 against the dollar and has regularly intervened in the foreign exchange market.
Due to billions of dollars of aid from Western countries, Ukraine’s foreign exchange reserves have reached 30 billion dollars.
The National Bank Governor said that 3 lakh commemorative notes will be issued.
Officials of the central bank said that it took 8 months to create the design of the new note and produce the notes.
He said the bank wanted to issue a series of commemorative notes to provide a visual record of the war.
He said that plans are already being made to issue commemorative notes for the war victory and the reconstruction of Ukraine.
