Karachi: The Sindh High Court canceled the notification to close the roads of Burns Road for Food Street and ordered to immediately remove all encroachments from the roads and footpaths.
The court, while accepting the petition of the residents, remarked that the fundamental rights of the citizens cannot be abrogated for the food street. A bench headed by Justice Aqeel Ahmad Abbasi and comprising Justice Mehmood A. Khan passed the major order on the plea of the residents of the area against blocking the roads of Burns Road for Food Street.
The court accepted the request of the residents of Burns Road. The court quashed the road closure notification for the food street. The court ordered the administration to open Burns Road roads in 2 days. In the order, the court has said that Burns Road and surrounding roads should not be closed during evening hours.
Fundamental rights of citizens cannot be waived for food street. The court ordered immediate removal of all encroachments from roads and footpaths. In the petition filed, the residents of the area had taken the position that even the ambulance does not get a way due to the closure of the roads. During the evening hours, the local people face severe problems. The closure of Burns Road affects not only the specific area but also the surrounding areas.
