Karachi: The City Council passed resolutions to collect municipal utility charges and taxes from residents of Shahr Quaid in electricity bills and to impose toll tax.

According to the details, two resolutions were passed in the city council today, one of which was related to the implementation of toll tax. After the approval of this resolution, Karachi became the first city in the country where citizens will have to pay tax if they drive their vehicles on roads, flyovers, underpasses.

This resolution came suddenly in the city council, on which the whole house was surprised, there was a noise on it, but the resolution was approved. The method of toll tax will be in such a way that when citizens register their vehicles, KMC will collect their toll tax, while if they pay annual motor vehicle tax, KMC will also have toll tax. This is not a tax in the city.

The members of Jamaat-e-Islami Tehreek-e-Insaaf strongly protested this tax, but it was approved. Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab explained it by saying that this toll tax will bring an annual income of 70 crore rupees to the city of Karachi.

Similarly, the controversial municipal tax was also approved by the city council under which municipal utility charges and taxes will be collected from citizens through K-electric bills.

On behalf of the opposition, it was also strongly protested and said that K-Electric is a thieving company, it should not collect the municipal tax through it, it should adopt some other method or collect it at the town and UC level. But the mayor of Karachi immediately approved both the resolutions, which will further increase the burden of inflation on the citizens of Karachi.

Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that by collecting MUCT through the bills of Karachi Electric, the KMC will get an income of Rs. Effective June 2008, we passed the resolution to the City Council upon court order and 195 people voted in favor of the resolution.

Murtaza Wahab said that he also thanked the parliamentary leaders of the political parties who voted in favor of this resolution for passing this important resolution. It used to be thrown away and there was a suspicion of lack of funds, but now we are doing all this in the same powers.

Mayor Karachi said that many institutions, including the National Highway, collect toll tax, but if no one can pay the tax, it is only Karachi. Not being given away, all the land will remain the property of KMC but work will continue under Public Private Partnership for the betterment and development of the city.

He said that the ownership of 10 acres of Bagh Ibn Qasim which is being provided for the Museum of Art will also remain with KMC. He said that the coming generation is not aware of the history of Karachi. The history of Karachi will be introduced through the museum. Mayor Karachi said that we have reduced the MUCT tax to a minimum and no tax will be charged from those who consume electricity up to 100 units, only Rs.20 from 101 to 200 units and from 201 to 300 units. 40 rupees will be charged from those who do it and the rate will be fixed accordingly.

He said that K Electric will receive seven and a half percent from the collected amount and the remaining amount will be transferred to KMC’s account. Will give a calculation of Rs.

Earlier, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab presided over the council meeting and in the meeting, in collaboration with the Excise and Taxation Department, approval was given to collect toll tax from vehicles using the roads and bridges of Karachi. The council meeting was addressed by Najmi Alam, Qazi Sadruddin, Saifuddin Advocate, Asad Aman, Mubashirul Haq and others. was proposed as the Leader of the Opposition which was unanimously approved by the House.
