Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court has sought a date till July 10 regarding the holding of local body elections in the federal capital.
The case was heard against the non-conduct of local body elections. The Islamabad High Court also suspended the property tax notices on the new rate.
Barrister Umar Ejaz Gilani and other lawyers appeared before the court on behalf of the petitioners.
Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani remarked that the petitioners will have to submit the property tax at the old rate, after the approval of the local government, they will be able to levy the tax. Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani asked the Election Commission officials that why the local government elections are not being held.
Officials of the Election Commission said that a schedule has been given regarding constituencies. Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani remarked that constituencies have been demarcated to the extent of 125 union councils, there is no need for a new one, the Supreme Court has decided and the Islamabad High Court has also decided that local government elections should be held. Are the governments of founder PTI, Nawaz Sharif, Shehbaz Sharif responsible for the fact that no one has conducted the Islamabad local government election.
Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani instructed the Election Commission lawyer not to mix Union Council with National Assembly constituencies, will there be new constituencies every two or three months? Ask the federal government and tell them the date of the Islamabad local government election. Justice Mohsin remarked that if the date is not given, I will also give notice of contempt of court to the federal government and the Election Commission.
Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani remarked that CDAM is destroying the entire city in the name of MCI, without the local government you have imposed billions of taxes, if the local government will not give the election date, then tell the Chief Election Commissioner. Give and also tell the federal government that I will take contempt of court notice, without any authority, CDA has used MCI’s funds worth billions of rupees.
Additional Attorney General Manoor Iqbal Dogal said that the case is under hearing in another court in this regard, on which Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani remarked that I am not responsible to any other court, I am responsible to my court, which you understand. Come, give that date, I am giving one week’s time, if the federal government does not hold elections, then I will see them.
