Eleven workers were killed due to an explosion and suffocation in a coal mine in Union Council Sanjadi, forty kilometers away from the capital of Balochistan.
Chief Mines Inspector Quetta Abdul Ghani said that an accident occurred due to gas leakage in UC Sanjadi coal mine in which 11 people died due to suffocation, including 9 miners, a contractor and a mine manager.
He said that the deceased belonged to Swat and the bodies of the deceased have been taken out and shifted to the hospital, after which the deceased will be sent to their native areas after performing funeral prayers.
The spokesperson of the Balochistan government said that the explosion occurred due to gas filling in the coal mine, after which the mine collapsed and 11 workers who were buried under its debris died.
He said that the PDMA, district administration and the Department of Mines have started rescue operations, while the provincial government expressed regret over the loss of life in the accident and ordered an investigation into the incident.
