Karachi: Corruption of one and a half to two billion rupees has been revealed in Karachi in the name of cattle fee.

The Anti-Corruption Department has started a formal investigation into the alleged illegal contract award, the Director Anti-Corruption has directed the Deputy Director East to investigate the matter.

According to the sources, the contract of health clearance certificate and mulching animal tax collection was given to MK Contractor, Town Chairman Tariq Baloch, Municipal Commissioner Ahmed Yar Abbasi has been accused of illegal contract allotment.

Sources say that Director Admin Sharif Shaikh, Director Taxation Zohaib Dashti and Humayun Imran are also involved in illegal work. On the complaint of Jilani Enterprises, an investigation has been started by the Anti-Corruption Department.

The aggrieved contractor says that the highest bidders were kept out of the auction, the contract was illegally handed over to MK Company for Rs 24 crore.

According to the sources, the contract was awarded by the Town Municipal Administration Gadap, the legal requirements were not fulfilled in awarding the contract, the contract was mainly a mandate of the city government which was later handed over to the District Council Karachi.

According to the rules, only the town administration in the buffalo colony can receive contracts from milk animals, but a tax of 300 to 600 rupees per animal was collected from lakhs of animals coming from all over the country.

Sources say that 50 to 60 lakh rupees are being collected daily at Check Post No. 5 on Motorway M9.
