Karachi: Due to the non-cooperation of the Plant Protection Department, hundreds of containers of imported wood could not be cleared at Karachi port for 2 months.
All Pakistan Timber Traders Association and Karachi Timber Merchants have announced to close the Karachi Timber Market as a protest against the non-cooperation of the Plant Protection Department.
Sharjeel Goplani, president of the association, said that the timber traders will announce their future protest plan at a press conference on Thursday at 3 pm.
He said that it is a tragedy of this country that any issue is not resolved through dialogue unless there is a protest on the streets.
Sharjeel Goplani has said that the people who are working according to the law are being harassed by the government agencies deliberately, until the containers are cleared from the port, the business community will protest and the scope of the protest will be expanded to the whole of Pakistan.
He said that due to the non-cooperation of the Plant and Protection Department, the traders are having to bear the burden of additional payments of lakhs of rupees in the form of demurrage notification charges, which is causing loss to the legitimate workers.
