Karachi: The Sindh High Court has ordered an immediate start of operations against shops and other businesses on the land of police stations.
A two-member bench headed by Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput heard a petition against commercial activities in the name of police welfare in Sindh police stations, in which IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon appeared. The court was angry with IG Sindh for doing commercial activities in police stations.
Justice Zafar Ahmad Rajput inquired that commercial activities are going on in how many police stations? On which IG Sindh while giving a statement admitted that 1920 properties are established in 32 locations of 16 districts of the province. Notices were given to the concerned persons to stop the business activities, they obtained injunctions from various courts.
The court remarked that if anyone has obtained an injunction on the shops established on the land of the police stations, then they order the termination today. Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput inquired that when will the ongoing business activities in police stations end? On which the government lawyer stated that the shops which were leased have been cancelled. The business activities taking place on the land of police stations are illegal.
Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput remarked that if the lease has been cancelled, the possession should be terminated immediately. The court ordered immediate termination of business activities in police stations across the province. The court ordered to launch operations against shops and other businesses on police station land.
In the petition filed, the petitioner’s counsel Mehmood Alam Rizvi Advocate had taken the stand that the police wanted to blackmail to increase the rent by 15/20 times. There is a tenancy agreement of 11 months, which is renewable from year to year.
