Karachi: The Sindh Cabinet has approved several important decisions including extension of Rangers deployment in Karachi Division for another 6 months, payment of dues of retired government employees.

In the Sindh Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, extension of Rangers deployment in Karachi Division for another 6 months, introduction of premium number plates for vehicles, purchase of MRI system for SIUT Sukkur. Several important decisions were approved including allocation of Rs.15 billion, and release of Rs.10.189 billion for payment of dues of retired government employees.

The Sindh Cabinet approved the extension of the deployment period of Pakistan Rangers in Karachi Division under the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997, according to which the deployment of Rangers will be from 2024-06-13 to 2024-12-09.

In the Cabinet meeting, Minister of Excise and Taxation Department Sharjeel Memon proposed the introduction of premium number plates for vehicles, which was approved by the Cabinet. At present, the department issues three types of number plates namely commercial, non-commercial and motorcycle number plates. In 2021-22, the department issued a total of 71,645 choice number plates, generating a revenue of Rs 44 million in fees.

The Health Department informed the Cabinet that the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) Karachi has requested the release of funds of Rs.1500 million for CFY 2023-24 to build an integrated high-filed facility for SIUT Sukkur. (1.5 tesla) linear accelerators can be purchased with MRI systems. After deliberation, the Cabinet approved Rs 1.5 billion for the purchase of linear accelerators.

Finance Secretary Fayyaz Jatoi while briefing the cabinet said that till 30 November 2023, 19537 government employees are waiting to receive their dues after retirement. 36.842 billion rupees in payment of liabilities. The government has sanctioned Rs.21.558 billion, out of which Rs.11.369 billion has been released and Rs.10.189 billion is currently outstanding. Sindh Chief Minister approved the release of Rs 10 crore with the approval of the Cabinet.

Irrigation Secretary Zarif Kherio informed the Cabinet that funds are required for carrying out emergency works for extension of Supriyo Dam to Nara District, Khuda Wah District (RD-O to 47) Taluk Khairpur Nathan Shah, District Dadu Rice Canal Division Larkana. . After discussion, Chief Minister Sindh approved Rs 449.563 million to complete the emergency works.
