Data change by doctor, hospital stops all transplant operations

Texas: A hospital in the US has suspended its liver and kidney transplant programs after a doctor was found to have altered the records of transplant candidates.

According to US media, Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center issued a statement saying that inappropriate changes made by a doctor at the hospital disabled candidates on the liver transplant waiting list.

The medical center said in a statement that the doctor admitted to altering the patient’s records. The doctor has been identified as transplant surgeon Dr. J. Steve Bynon Jr.

Dr. J-Steve has led the Abdominal Transplant Program at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston since 2011. The hospital halted its liver transplant program this month after discovering irregularities in the quality of liver donors. Problems were found with the information entered in the patient and donor databases.

According to the statement, the US Department of Health and Human Services is aware of these allegations and an investigation has been launched.
