Peshawar BRT;  Accounts of contractors are frozen, orders issued to sell plots

Peshawar: The Accountability Court has issued orders to freeze the accounts and seal the plots of the contractors involved in the Peshawar BRT scam.

The accountability court issued a major verdict related to the BRT scam, in which 75 bank accounts of the involved contractors were frozen and orders were also issued to seal 2 residential plots.

Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Younis issued orders confirming the orders of DG NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. On the occasion of the hearing of the case, Additional Prosecutor General Mohammad Ali and Prosecutor Manik Shah appeared on behalf of NAB.

During the hearing, the court was told that NAB is investigating the BRT scam and in this context 75 bank accounts and 2 commercial plots of the contractors have been frozen. In this regard all the action has been completed and the investigation is on, these accounts have been frozen to further the investigation.

On this occasion, counsel for Maqbool and Kelsons told the court that the contractors had gone to international arbitration, and that it was illegal to freeze these accounts as the DG NAB had no authority and the third foreign contractor of the project. No action was taken against.

Responding on this occasion, the lawyer of NAB told the court that the NAB chairman can delegate his powers to anyone, while the foreign contractor he is talking about was an unnamed partner, so the DG There is this option.

The lawyers of NAB were of the opinion that this freezing was done under the law and NAB can freeze these accounts.

During the hearing, the lawyers of the contractors termed the freezing of accounts as an illegal measure and said that NAB has not fulfilled the legal requirements and these accounts and plots, worth crores of rupees, have been sealed.

Later, the court upheld NAB’s order freezing the accounts and plazas of the contractors and directed the lawyers of the contractors to file objection petitions in the court if they want to file an appeal against it.
