Rawalpindi: After the confirmation of polio virus in children in different parts of the country, the Rawalpindi District Health Authority declared seven Union Councils (UCs) adjacent to Islamabad as red zones for polio.
This step has been taken after the confirmation of polio virus in environmental samples taken from 10 places in Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Special teams have been formed to go door-to-door to ensure that no child misses out on polio vaccinations. Those who have not yet received the polio vaccine will be given the polio vaccine immediately.
DHA sources said that 7 USCs adjacent to the entry points of Rawalpindi have been declared red zones for polio.
Dispensaries set up by UNICEF and the Bill Gates Foundation have also been included in the process of certifying the administration of door-to-door polio vaccination of children in the red zone. Open drains have also been found in these 7 USIs.
DHA Chief Executive Dr. Ijaz Ahmed says that during the polio eradication campaign, every effort is made to ensure that no child misses out on polio vaccination. However, re-checking has been started in 7 USCs and polio vaccinations are being administered.
