Karachi: After the approval of the new grading policy at the matriculation and entrance level across Pakistan, the implementation of the policy in the examinations in Sindh has become difficult due to the lack of interest of the concerned authorities.
Grading policy is to be started step by step on the assessment and results of 2024 annual matriculation and entrance exams held across the country in the style of Cambridge Board (A and Level), however, no preparations have been started yet regarding the implementation of the Sindh Government Education Board policy. Nor has any notification been issued by any Board or Department of Boards and Universities for the implementation of this policy.
Due to this lack of interest, it is likely that the students in the remaining three provinces of the country, Gilgit-Bulistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, at the secondary and matriculation levels will take the exams and get the results under the new grading policy, but Sindh will lag behind in this policy.
On the other hand, realizing this situation, the Federal Ministry of Education has also written a regular letter to the Department of Universities and Boards of the Government of Sindh on March 6, in which, while mentioning the approval of the policy, it has been emphasized that all the education boards To bring uniformity or uniform approach in the examinations, the decision of the new grading system should be ensured, in which the passing marks are set at 40.
This letter has been issued under the signature of Mohiuddin Ahmad Wani, the Special Secretary appointed in the Federal Ministry of Education, in which it is said that the IBCC Forum, the body of chairmen of education boards across the country, approved this decision in November 2022, while December 22. The implementation of this decision has also been approved in the Interprovincial Education Ministers’ Conference (Interprovincial Education Ministers’ Conference) held in 2023.
On the other hand, “Express” contacted the Secretary University Zandbord Norsom in this regard, but they did not give any response in this regard.
It is to be noted that the phased implementation of the said policy is to be started from the examinations and results of the ninth and eleventh grades and under the policy, the passing marks of the subjects will now be increased from 33 to 40 and the student who gets at least 40 marks will be considered successful in the relevant paper, while the phase under the policy The marks obtained from the student’s mark sheets will be removed and only grades will be given while the grading system will be completely shifted to “CGPA” in three years.
It is being told that the education boards of other three provinces have started preparations for the application of this new grading system and according to IBCC sources this policy is also being approved by the Punjab government, however there is no preparation in this regard in Sindh.
It is worth noting that the Ziauddin Board working on a private basis in Sindh has issued a notification for the implementation of the 2024 annual examinations on this decision, in which it has been formally stated that in the context of the decision of the IBCC Forum this year A new grading system is being implemented on the basis of “Great Point Average” (GPA) in the annual matriculation and entrance exams 2024, while there is no preparation in this regard in the official education boards of Sindh.
On the condition of anonymity, a chairman of the board told “Express” that no board in Sindh has a permanent controller of examination, nor is the secretary board working permanently, the board is the worst kind of ad hocism. Implementation of the policy is apparently impossible as it also involves training of teachers conducting assessments.
The chairman of the board further said that so far there has been no progress in this regard even from the officials of the university board. How can the board alone take such a big decision?
It should be noted that under this decision, the exam results will be replaced by an unsatisfactory grade, while A++ with 95% to 100% marks is classified as exceptional, A+ with 90% to 94% marks as outstanding and A grade with 85% to 89% marks as excellent. Further grades are very good, good, fairly good. , above average, below average is named.
Importantly, if the government education boards of Sindh lag behind in the implementation of this new grading policy, the impact will be on millions of matriculating and matriculating students from Sindh.
After two years, when the graduate students from other provinces go for university admissions, the results of Tuan will consist of GPA under the new grading policy and they must have passed the papers with at least 40 passing marks, while students from Sindh will have the old grade. Must have passed Intermediate with at least 33 passing marks.
The matter will not stop only here, but the intermediate students from Ziauddin Education Board working on private basis in Sindh will also pass the exam with the new grading policy like the students of other provinces and the grades and mark sheets of the students in Sindh will be of two types. .
