Deaths from stroke are expected to increase by 50 percent by 2050

London: A recent study suggests that by 2050, the global death rate from stroke may increase by 50 percent.

According to the World Stroke Organization and the Lancet Neurology Commission Stroke Collaboration Group, the number of strokes due to population and aging may increase from 6.6 million (as of 2020) to 9.7 million by 2050.

According to the NHS website, it is not always possible to prevent a stroke due to some unchangeable factors. These factors include age (most strokes occur in the 60s and 70s), but anyone can be affected (due to genetics, family history, and ethnicity). Apart from this, other health factors can also be related to stroke.

However, according to the data, there are some things we can do to help reduce this condition, especially by controlling high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol.

According to Dr Angela Roy of London General Practice, a stroke occurs when the blood supply to the brain stops or is reduced.

He said that there are two types of paralysis. Ischemic stroke occurs when blood flow to the brain stops, while the other type of hemorrhagic stroke occurs when blood leaks into the brain. Most strokes are of the ischemic type and are associated with specific factors.
