Lack of vaccine against dog bites in Sindh, High Court's strong expression of indignation

Report sought from Chief Secretary Sindh, Anti Rabies Program Sindh and Secretary Local Government

Karachi: The Sindh High Court, while expressing its strong indignation at the request regarding the lack of dog bite prevention vaccine, sought a report from the Chief Secretary Sindh, Anti-Rabies Program Sindh and the Secretary Local Government.

A two-member bench headed by Chief Justice Sindh High Court, Justice Aqeel Ahmad Abbasi, heard a petition related to the lack of dog bite vaccine.

Petitioner lawyer Tariq Mansoor advocate stated that hundreds of people are bitten by dogs every day in different districts of Sindh. Vaccine is not available in 432 hospitals of 32 districts of Sindh including Karachi. Every day more than 150 hundred people come to Jinnah and Civil Hospital who are victims of dog bites. In Karachi, people are becoming victims of dog bites in Sarjani, Orangi Town, Malir Quaidabad and other areas. An anti-rabies program was established 4 years ago which is still inactive. A budget of billions of rupees was allocated but the dog bite vaccine is not available in the hospitals. The helpline set up for the anti-rabies program is also inactive. People are making promises.

Expressing strong anger, the court sought a report from the Chief Secretary Sindh, Anti-rabies Program Sindh and Secretary Local Government by February 10.
