Continuing education increases longevity, research finds

New York: A new study has revealed that the more educated a person is, the longer they live.

According to media reports, a global study published in ‘The Lancet Public Health’ journal has shown that the higher the level of education of a person, the lower the risk of early death.

The researchers found that a person’s risk of early death decreased by an average of 2 percent each year they gained additional education.

In other words, people who have completed six years of primary school have a 13% lower risk of early death on average. Those with a secondary school education reduce the risk by about 25%, while those with a master’s degree reduce the risk by 34%.

Co-lead author of the study and Dr. Mirza Balaj of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology said this could be because more education leads to better employment, higher income, better access to health care and better health practices. Take care of
