Adelaide: Although lower back pain resolves in about 6 weeks in most cases, researchers caution that long-term pain can become increasingly difficult to treat.
According to media reports, an international team of experts reviewed 95 previous studies comparing low back pain at 6 weeks, 12 weeks, and more than 12 weeks.
Lorimer Moseley, a professor of physiotherapy and pain management at the University of South Australia in Adelaide, said the findings show that back pain can persist even after a back injury has healed because the pain is linked to the body’s immune system. Pain is related to the sensitivity of the system and not to the injury.
He added that when you have back pain for a few months, you may recover, but once you have back pain for several months, the chances of recovery are slim.
It should be noted that more than 57 million people worldwide suffer from back pain. Between 1996 and 2016, the bill for its treatment in the United States alone has been recorded at $134.5 billion, and the cost is still rising.
