Hafiz Naeem says democracy has been undermined by withdrawing bat symbol from PTI

Amir Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman wrote a letter to the Election Commission to cancel the election symbols of PML-N, PP and demanded that the decision of the Supreme Court should be implemented on other political parties as well.

Hafiz Naeem said that according to Section 208 of the Election Act 2017, it is mandatory for every political party to hold an intra-party election.

In the letter, it was said that the election symbols of the Muslim League-N and the People’s Party should be canceled for not holding the election according to the law. He was deprived of the electoral symbol between 2015 and 2016. As a result of this decision, millions of voters were not only left with uncertainty.

He said that in many other political parties, especially the Muslim League-N and the People’s Party, intra-party elections have never been seen or heard as per the decision of the Supreme Court. There is no reason why the decision of the Supreme Court should not be implemented on the rest of the parties, especially these two major political parties.

Hafiz Naeem emphasized that while implementing the decision of the Supreme Court for not holding intra-party elections as per the law, under Section (5) 515 of the Act, immediately at least two major political parties Pakistan Muslim League-N and People’s Party. Their electoral symbols should be withdrawn, the three major political parties would appear to be treated equally and a “level playing field” would be available to all three.
