Karachi: Caretaker Chief Minister Sindh Justice (Rtd) Maqbool Baqir has directed to construct a housing scheme in Tesar Town for the victims of Gujjar, Mehmoodabad and Orangi Nala.

Justice (Retd) Maqbool Baqir presided over the meeting and directed the local government department to start the internal development work, he gave these instructions during the meeting at the Chief Minister House on Thursday.

Municipalities Minister Mubeen Jumani, Law Minister Umar Soomro, Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, Chief Secretary Dr. Fakhar Alam, Municipalities Secretary Manzoor Sheikh, Finance Secretary Kazim Jatoi, Law Secretary Ali Ahmed Baloch, Commissioner Karachi Salim Rajput, DG MDA Naseem were present in the meeting. Sohto and other concerned officers attended.

While giving a briefing to the caretaker chief minister of Sindh, Local Government Secretary Manzoor Shaikh said that 137.74 acres of land has been allocated for 6500 affected people of Gujjar, Mehmoodabad and Orangi canals in Teesar Town Scheme-45, Sector 16 of Malir Development Authority.

He informed that the Sindh government will allot a plot of 80 square yards to each affected person/family and along with possession title of the plot and solving all the problems, the construction cost will also be paid to the affected people.

The Caretaker Chief Minister Sindh directed the MDA to appoint an architect for proper development of the housing scheme for the people affected by the drain.

He directed the MDA to develop a park, a playground, a school and a mosque for the housing scheme and equip it with all facilities like gas, water and electricity.

Justice (Rtd) Maqbool Baqir directed the Finance Department to release funds so that the internal and external development of the housing scheme can be started.

He added that he would personally visit the area to check if quality work was being done. Caretaker Chief Minister Sindh directed the MDA to start the development work and try to complete it in 6 months.

“We are already too late to accommodate the affected people and now it should be done on a war footing,” he said.
