Karachi: The Election Commission of Pakistan has stopped the Sindh government from extending the tenure of the current Executive Director of IBA Karachi, Dr. Akbar Zaidi.

The first four-year tenure of Dr. Akbar Zaidi will be completed after 15 days on 12 January 2024. He was appointed as the Executive Director of IBA Karachi by the former Sindh Government on 13 January 2020, after which he will take a 6-month leave as soon as he joins. But had left for America and was managing IBA from there.

The current caretaker government of Sindh had once again approved the extension of the tenure of Dr. Akbar Zaidi, and the controlling authority of public universities and institutions, Chief Minister Sindh Justice (R) Maqbool Baqir would have approved this summary on November 13. The summary was sent to the Election Commission for final approval, after which the Election Commission has rejected this summary.

It is being told that Chief Minister Sindh (R) Justice Maqbool had not considered some of the requests received from the faculty and staff of IBA in this regard, after which the concerned persons contacted the regular commission on the matter.

An officer of the Sindh government told “Express” that since the current caretaker provincial government wants to retain the executive director of IBA on the pattern of the previous Sindh government, legal battle is being considered over the issue.

The Sindh government is not finding a solution for this, except that he should be allowed to work on this post for the time being and if the elections are held as per the schedule, then the job of Dr. Akbar Zaidi will be extended in the future provincial government. do

If the letter received by the Election Commission is followed according to its direction, the caretaker government of Sindh will have to advertise the post of Executive Director of IBA in this regard.
