Sindh Cabinet;  Approval of various financial funds including Rs 300 million for elections

Karachi: The Sindh Cabinet approved Rs 300 million for the general elections as well as various financial funds for various development projects.

On Tuesday, a meeting was held in the Chief Minister’s House under the chairmanship of Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (Rtd) Maqbool Baqir. Chief Secretary Dr Fakhar Alam told the Cabinet that Rs 300 million (Rs 10 million each of all 30 DCs) could be provided to all Returning Officers/Deputy Commissioners for election expenses.

The Cabinet also approved disbursement of Rs 168 million to the Deputy Commissioners to pay old expenses of local body elections. The cabinet was informed that the current monthly electricity charges are on an average of Rs 5300 million and for the next eight months of the current financial year 2023-24, an amount of Rs 42400 million (5300×8=42400 million) will be required till June 2024.

After deliberation, the cabinet approved an amount of Rs 29.376 billion to enable electricity distribution companies to generate electricity bills for the Sindh government by April 2024. The transport department proposed to increase the BRT green line fare (from Rs.15 to Rs.30 and from Rs.55 to Rs.70) and intra-district people’s bus service which was rejected by the caretaker chief minister. The Cabinet was informed that under the People’s Bus Service, 204 buses (36 from Hyderabad and Larkana) are plying on 13 routes in Karachi, including two routes of pink buses.

In August 2023, the Cabinet approved the reconstruction of Kathur Interchange by NHA through SCORE at a cost of Rs 2.4 billion in August 2023. The Cabinet, after discussion, approved the balance of Rs 1.1 billion with land compensation of Rs 250 million. Approved.

The Chief Minister said that there is shortage of fertilizer in the market and farmers complained to him during his visits to Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas and Sukkur. The Chief Minister was informed that the Hindu Gymkhana was established in 1925 on a plot of 47000 yards and before independence it was a club of the Hindu class.

The briefing informed that this historic building is considered to be a major architectural masterpiece of its era in Karachi. The cabinet approved Rs 109.680 million. On the request of the people of Hala, the Cabinet decided to hand over the newly constructed Rural Health Center Hala Old to PPHI and sanctioned Rs.40 million.

The Cabinet was informed that Kherthar National Park was the first National Park of Pakistan which was declared in 1974. Mahal Kohistan and areas adjacent to Hub Dam are wildlife sanctuaries. The Cabinet approved allocation of funds equivalent to Rs.260,81,770.
