Immediately stop feeding honey to infants

Parents who feed honey to a child under one year of age should stop it immediately as it can put the child at risk of many diseases.

Honey naturally contains a bacteria called Clostridium which can cause infant botulism in children under one year of age.

In this disease, the baby may experience symptoms like tissue fatigue, problem in drinking milk, weakness in crying, difficulty in movement and constipation.

Parents are advised not to give their child honey or any other processed food containing honey until after their first birthday. This can prevent botulism in infants. Although syrups made from corn starch may contain botulism-causing bacteria, no link has been proven. However, consult your doctor before giving this syrup to a child.
