Police cannot end encroachment, half of Karachi has become Goth, Supreme Court

Karachi: During the hearing of the case in the Supreme Court, Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi has remarked that the police cannot end the encroachment, half of Karachi has been turned into Goth.

The Supreme Court ordered to submit an interim report to the authorities within 15 days on the petition related to giving alternative houses to Gujjar, Orangi and Mehmoodabad Nallah victims.

A hearing was held in front of a 3-member bench consisting of Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi and Justice Irfan Saadat Khan at the Supreme Court Karachi Registry on the petition related to providing alternative houses to the Gujjar, Orangi and Mahmoodabad nullah victims.

On this occasion, Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, Chief Secretary, Commissioner Karachi and other officials appeared in the court. The court expressed its displeasure over the non-implementation of the order to provide an alternative house. Justice Syed Hussain Azhar Rizvi remarked that Goths are made here. Half of Karachi has been made Goth. If your police can’t stop the encroachment, bring in a private security guard.

Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar said in his remarks that where did the issue of alternative houses reach? Tell me what happened? The chief secretary said that only the approval of the cabinet is left to be given some time. Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar said that whether you go around the cabinet or do something else, this is the order of the court and it has to be implemented.

Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that 2 options are being considered regarding giving alternatives. Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi remarked that somewhere the land has been identified and what is there? Murtaza Wahab said that the land has been allocated, time should be given to remove the encroachments, this is the proposal of the Chief Secretary.

Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar said that one will be removed and another will come. It is your responsibility to clear the land. The Additional Advocate General stated that the land is available, only the construction money and the construction of the house is under consideration.

The focal person said that checks could not be given to more than 600 victims. Some people have not contacted, some people have their ID cards blocked, some have died. The court directed to provide the list of victims to the lawyer of the victims.

Justice Irfan Saadat Khan said that there is hope that the matter will go further. have come here. If you go, the journey will be cut off slowly. Murtaza Wahab said that 491 checks of the victims are left and they will also be given. The court directed to make every possible effort to give checks to the remaining victims.

During the hearing, there was a bitter exchange between the government lawyer and the victim’s lawyer. Faisal Siddiqui Advocate argued that lakhs of people have become homeless, is it a joke? The government lawyer is standing here laughing and people are angry. The court silenced the lawyers and gave remarks not to talk among themselves.

The court ordered to consider both the proposals for providing alternative houses and resolve the matter. The Supreme Court ordered the authorities to submit an interim report within 15 days while giving time to the provincial government for cabinet approval.
