September and October are considered to be the best time for mustard cultivation in Pakistan. In the irrigated areas of North and Central Punjab, cultivation of mustard and cabbage mustard is done from 1st September to 30th September, while in the irrigated areas of South Punjab, the best time to cultivate mustard and cabbage mustard is from 1st October to 31st October.

Making saag from mustard seeds and leaves, people eat corn and millet bread with butter and desi ghee with relish. Delicious dishes like saag parathas, saag rice and saag gosh are made and eaten with great enthusiasm. Medicinally, greens are heavy, slow-digesting and anti-inflammatory food.
